Sports Massage
Sports massage is very effective for anyone who suffers with tension in their muscles. Whether that be someone who runs 30 miles per week or someone who sits in front of a computer all day, massage can be very helpful for releasing all those aches and pains.

Muscle tension often presents as a feeling of tightness or aching within the muscle and is commonly associated with overuse of that specific group of muscles. Occasionally the pain may be sharp and acute within the muscle on movement which again is a sign that the muscles are becoming very over-worked. The key thing with sports massage is that it is always an injury prevention or relaxation aid, it is not a cure of an injury you have sustained. So if you feel over-worked, tense or in need of a bit of maintenance whilst you up your training intensity, book in with our massage therapist today.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is becoming a very popular treatment option amongst physiotherapists. Acupuncture has been shown to reduce pain by stimulating the brain and spinal cord to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals and assist the body's healing processes, ultimately offering pain relief. Acupuncture has been found to be very effective for a range of dysfunctions ranging from back pain to muscle spasms. It is also used in the presence of a selection of medical conditions such as vertigo for example. It is now used throughout the healthcare profession and has a significant amount of scientific and anecdotal evidence to support its use.

If you are one that has tried a variety of different options to resolve your pain but to no avail, why not try acupuncture?

Biomechanical assessments.

In simple terms, biomechanics refers to the way we move to execute certain tasks. Every individual's biomechanics will vary slightly from what is considered 'ideal', however excessive variations can significantly increase an individual's risk of injury.

Here at Les Slinn Personal Training, our physiotherapist specialises in biomechanics, often using video technology to help you understand that is either causing your pain or is likely to cause you an injury. From the information we gain during these assessments, we are able to then identify appropriate actions to rectify them.

When any person begins to increase their training intensity, aches and pains become more likely. Having the correct footwear for example can be crucial for avoiding these problems. Having an assessment before purchasing trainers is important to ensure they optimise your biomechanics and ensure you move in the most efficient way. The advantage of having that assessment with us at Les Slinn Personal Training is that we can provide an objective opinion on your specific movement patterns and educate on exactly what you should be looking for in your new trainers before you go and buy them. Having an understanding of your specific biomechanics allows you to make the best informed decision of what trainers to purchase.

Rehabilitation & Injury prevention.

Unfortunately, it is very rare that treatment alone will be sufficient to eliminate all risk of your aches and pains returning. As a result, we put a primary focus on providing you with a progressive exercise plan that will help you get to where you need to be. We often work with a range of individuals over weekly, fortnightly and monthly appointments to progress them back to their optimal function.

Below is a few examples of individuals who might benefit from this service:

Individuals having undergone surgery and not made the desired recovery
Injured sports men and women who do not have access to a club therapist
Sporting individuals prone to injury that wish to avoid injury and stay fit
Individuals suffering with long term joint complaints and a a result reduced function
Office workers who are concerned with their risk of developing postural problems

Core stability training (ideal for people with back pain or postural problems).

Many of us believe that we train our 'core' in the gym by doing various stomach exercises. In fact, a huge majority of people do not train their core very effectively at all and this simply comes down to education and knowing exactly what you are aiming to achieve from your exercises. The term 'core stability' is about providing optimal support to your spine and pelvis during movement. Posture is a significant factor when it comes to core stability training and is something our physiotherapist puts great emphasis on. Finding the correct posture is crucial for effective core stability, something that we can help you find.

During one-to-one or small group sessions, our physio can help educate you on the importance of posture for core stability training, help you find your 'ideal posture' and guide you through all the progressions of core stability trainng. This is ideal for those who suffer with long term or reoccurring back or neck pain. Workshops & presentations.

At various times throughout the year, we run workshops and presentations based around training, injury prevention, running, core stability amongst other topics. This usually consists of a 2-3 hour education session designed to help our clients and members of the public understand more about aspects such as optimal technique, why pain occurs, best methods of recovery and preventing injury just to name a few.
